Mesari is a small four-star resort about 1.8 km north of central Ubud, in a quieter area where you'll want a scooter or a taxi to get to the palace and the restaurants. You choose between suites and one- or two-bedroom villas, all with air conditioning, a bathtub and walk-in shower, bathrobes and a desk, looking onto the garden or an inner courtyard. Days are slow: pool, sun terrace, spa treatments and yoga classes, with an Indonesian restaurant, a bar and room service when you don't feel like going out. It suits couples and friends after a few restful nights, and the two-bedroom villas and family rooms work for families. Free parking, 24-hour reception and a tour desk for day trips.
