Kehen Temple

A terraced temple that climbs by steps, calm and off the tourist track.

For anyone who wants a big temple without the famous-site crowds. You climb from courtyard to courtyard on wide stairs, under huge shady trees. It's an active place of worship, so cover knees and shoulders and take a sarong at the entrance. Go in the morning: it's calmer and the stairs are easier in the cool. It's in Bangli, on the way to Kintamani, so it fits if you're already heading north. Good if you like climbing slowly and noticing the details.
