Going to Ubud? See who'll be around

Plan your trip and we'll show you travellers on your dates. Only if you both want.

Moss-covered temples and hundreds of macaques right in the middle of Ubud. Go early and carry nothing they can grab.

It's the easy first outing in Ubud: from most places in the centre you can walk there. Paths wind under huge trees, over bridges across a ravine and past mossy temples, with monkeys everywhere eating, squabbling or climbing on anyone who isn't paying attention. Get there as it opens, when it's cooler and quieter. Keep sunglasses, earrings and any food zipped away, don't stare the monkeys down and don't offer them anything. An hour and a half is plenty to go slowly. It's easy on your own, since the paths are simple and there's always someone around. Good for anyone who wants a taste of the jungle without leaving town.
